Spied! 2014 Toyota Tundra Seen Testing in Winter Weather, Debut Set for Chicago Auto Show !

2014-toyota-tundra-front-view1-623x389

In case you forgot, there are other trucks made by automakers not located in Michigan. Case in point: the 2014 Toyota Tundra seen above. Toyota’s full-size pickup truck will make its official debut at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show next week. Unlike other trucks in the segment, the Tundra hasn’t seen a facelift since the second generation was introduced back at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show.

While it’s not scheduled to be unveiled until February 7, the 2014 Toyota Tundra was caught a little early testing in some winter weather. The camouflage does a good job covering up the entire truck so body lines and other styling tweaks are nearly impossible to make out, but it’s clear that the robust profile lives on for the third generation. However, if you look closely, you can see that the front grille appears to be a little bigger, with more angular shapes thrown into the fold. If the 2012 Toyota Tacoma’s facelift is any indication, we expect the 2014 Tundra to follow suit as well.

The Tundra is in desperate need of an update. With CAFE standards continuing to tighten, we expect the 2014 Toyota Tundra to focus on improving fuel economy with the possible addition of either direct-injection or an eight-speed transmission or even a combination of both. We’ll have to wait and see just what Toyota has in store for its full-size pickup so check back next week for our coverage of the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
